Noise-tolerant Modular Neural Network System for Classifying ECG Signal
Millions of electrocardiograms (ECG) are interpreted every year, requiring specialized training for accurate interpretation. Because automated and accurate classification ECG signals will improve early diagnosis of heart condition, several neural network (NN) approaches have been proposed for classifying ECG signals. Current strategies for a critical step, the preprocessing for noise removal, are still unsatisfactory. We propose a modular NN approach based on artificial noise injection, to improve the generalization capability of the resulting model. The NN classifier initially performed a fairly accurate recognition of four types of cardiac anomalies in simulated ECG signals with minor, moderate, severe, and extreme noise, with an average accuracy of 99.2%, 95.1%, 91.4%, and 85.2% respectively. Ultimately we discriminated normal and abnormal heartbeat patterns for single lead of raw ECG signals, obtained 95.7% of overall accuracy and 99.5% of Precision. Therefore, the propose approach is a useful tool for the detection and diagnosis of cardiac abnormalities
Mobile Calibration Based on Laser Metrology and Approximation Networks
A mobile calibration technique for three-dimensional vision is presented. In this method, vision parameters are computed automatically by approximation networks built based on the position of a camera and image processing of a laser line. The networks also perform three-dimensional visualization. In the proposed system, the setup geometry can be modified online, whereby an online re-calibration is performed based on data provided by the network and the required modifications of extrinsic and intrinsic parameters are thus determined, overcoming any calibration limitations caused by the modification procedure. The mobile calibration also avoids procedures involving references, which are used in traditional online re-calibration methods. The proposed mobile calibration thus improves the accuracy and performance of the three-dimensional vision because online data of calibrated references are not passed on to the vision system. This work represents a contribution to the field of online re-calibration, as verified by a comparison with the results based on lighting methods, which are calibrated and re-calibrated via perspective projection. Processing time is also studied
Espondilodiscitis infecciosa por abscesos de psoas secundario a infección por Burkholderia cepacia
Context: Infection by the Burkholderia cepacia complex is a clinical entity rarely reported in the literature outside the context of pneumonia in patients with cystic fibrosis or chronic granulomatosis; its appearance in soft tissues or the articular system is scarce.
Case description: We report the case of a 59-year-old man with diabetes mellitus 2 who was admitted with chronic low back pain secondary to multiple bilateral abscesses at the level of the psoas muscles associated with spondylodiscitis. After draining the abscesses, Burkholderia cepacia was isolated in culture.
Conclusions: This is the second report of deep posed abscess associated with infection by bacteria of the genus Burkholderia cepacia. The extrapulmonary and specifically musculoskeletal behavior is a fact to consider within the spectrum of clinical manifestations associated with this disease.

Chronic p53-independent p21 expression causes genomic instability by deregulating replication licensing
The cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21WAF1/CIP1 (p21) is a cell-cycle checkpoint effector and inducer of senescence, regulated by p53. Yet, evidence suggests that p21 could also be oncogenic, through a mechanism that has so far remained obscure. We report that a subset of atypical cancerous cells strongly expressing p21 showed proliferation features. This occurred predominantly in p53-mutant human cancers, suggesting p53-independent upregulation of p21 selectively in more aggressive tumour cells. Multifaceted phenotypic and genomic analyses of p21-inducible, p53-null, cancerous and near-normal cellular models showed that after an initial senescence-like phase, a subpopulation of p21-expressing proliferating cells emerged, featuring increased genomic instability, aggressiveness and chemoresistance. Mechanistically, sustained p21 accumulation inhibited mainly the CRL4–CDT2 ubiquitin ligase, leading to deregulated origin licensing and replication stress. Collectively, our data reveal the tumour-promoting ability of p21 through deregulation of DNA replication licensing machinery—an unorthodox role to be considered in cancer treatment, since p21 responds to various stimuli including some chemotherapy drugs

Diversidad fenotÃpica y variantes distintivas de la raza Jala de maÃz
The main objectives of this study were to determine the phenotypic diversity in the Jala race of maize (Zea mays L.) and to identify the components that distinguish it, on the basis of multiple morphological characteristics. A composite population made up of recent and old accessions of this race, named 'recovered Jala' was utilized; it was maintained through the half–sibs mating squeme. 252 families of recovered Jala were sown on April 21, 2004 at Montecillo, State of Mexico and in Jala, Nayarit on April 28. In both locations plant stand was 30 000 plants/ha with 25 plants per row. Fertilization rate was 100–50–50 (N–P–K) applied through drip irrigation in Montecillo, whereas in Jala the crop was conducted in the traditional farmer way without agrochemicals. The population displayed wide phenotypic diversity that was distributed in five groups at Montecillo and in six groups at Jala, showing larger divergence among groups in the later site, although the similitude among groups suggested a common genetic base. Ear characteristics, such as length and diameter, cob diameter and seed length allowed for a reasonable description of the diversity observed in both environments, although at Jala, Nayarit, ear height and shank diameter contributed for an accurate differentiation among groups, and the observed variation was a continuum of the typical characteristics of the race Jala. Nevertheless, two types of kernels could be differentiated, a dent and a pointed one. The diversity present in the race Jala has been originated by the constant gene flow among populations and the environmental influences characterized by low moisture and nutrients availability to which this maize has been subjected throughout its evolutionary process.
Morphometric relationships of the siphon clam Panopea globosa (Bivalvia: Hiatellidae) in the southeasternmost of the Gulf of California, Mexico
The morphometric relationships of the siphon clam Panopea globosa from Sinaloa, Mexico, were analyzed from February 2014 to April 2015. A total of 370 specimens were collected, measured (shell length, width, and height) and weighed (body weight, tissue weight, and shell weight). The coefficient of determination indicated variation in the fitting of morphometric variables among measured traits. The type of relative growth for all morphometric relationships was negative allometry. This is the first report on morphometric relationships of P. globosa from Sinaloa, Mexico
